Duration:  5 minutes

Description:
This video shows an animation illustrating intravitreal injection of the Ozurdex dexamethasone 700 mcg extended delivery implant, followed by an example of a patient receiving the injection. The applicator has a 22 gauge needle, allowing office-based, outpatient placement of the device, which delivers steroid to the posterior segment for up to 6 months. The injection is performed in a biplanar fashion through the pars plana, much as small gauge vitrectomy incisions are placed. Ozurdex has recently been approved by the FDA for the treatment of retinal venous occlusive diseases.
