22nd Biennial Cornea Conference

Current Concepts in Corneal and Refractive Surgery and External Disease

Recorded on November 9-10, 2018 at Wills Eye Hospital

Last Review Date November 9-10, 2018

Christopher J. Rapuano, MD - Program Chair

Program Description

The 22nd Biennial Cornea Conference will update comprehensive ophthalmologists and cornea specialists on current concepts in a wide range of topics related to cornea, external disease and refractive surgery.  The conference will feature didactic lectures, point/counterpoint discussions and audience interaction designed to help participants integrate the tools and techniques discussed into practice.  The conference will also feature the 15th Wilfred E. Fry, MD Memorial Corneal Lecture presented by Ralph C. Eagle, Jr., MD, Wills Eye Hospital.

As a result of attending this update, participants should be able to:

Apply current concepts in the management of ocular surface diseases including dry eyes, the use of contact lenses for ocular surface disease and ocular graft versus host disease.

Assess techniques used in the diagnosis and treatment of fungal, acanthamoeba, viral, and microsporidial keratitis.

Appreciate current status of new techniques for corneal surgery including Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK), Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK), Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK), and Corneal Collagen Crosslinking

Integrate into practice proper screening of refractive surgery patients and the management of a variety of pre-operative issues and post-operative complications

Assess the risk/benefits of new techniques for corneal surgery
